As well as working on expanding our main shop at http://baba-store.com we now have a new small shop at Etsy (a community for people selling hand-made goods) at babastudioPrague:

OR, if you'd like to be kept up to date with the updates on the Etsy shop, please add this feed to your Friends page. It's just text, but it should alert you to some of the new things that are happening - just add it to your Friends and it should do everything automatically:

I seem to have posted very little here and half-wonder if I shouldn't keep to one journal (baba-studio) only. However, I'll try to get updated here - we have loads of new things coming into the shop - and then we'll see in January if it makes sense to try to keep up with two journals!

We only have a few (update - we now only have four). One of the floral ones is already reserved for an LJer - the other went even before we put it on the shop.

However, all of these are really good - better than we can photograph them. But if you desperately want wine-red velvet let me know, we do plan some more.

We've only done one dark brown for now. It's more of a definite brown than our last bags (which were a kind of brown/black) so may not go with as much as the black. But the brown does feel ever so Victorian.

Oh - by the way, the seams ARE all straight (in fact the people making for us now are very good) but our photos are a bit wobbly in some cases :)

Anyway, as you may have gathered we've had problems finding enough carpet and so on - so if you want one of these please don't leave it too long.

It's been a saga. We are now getting our velvet direct from the factory (we found out in the spring that most of the velvet in Europe is made in Czech Republic - duh!) and so we have FOUR really good bags in heavy black velvet, carpet and with black leather handles. They are all in the new shoulder bag with zip style (scroll down here and you'll see the style, shape and size).

Pictures when we get time to make them, but there is one with roses, two in the beige/cream/black/red carpet (which doesn't photograph well but is in fact gorgeous - striking and smart) and one in blue/pink oriental style.

More on the way too. At last, at last...

One day we have to figure out how to make these so that we can wholesale them. The issue right now is that effectively we are retailing at wholesale price (i.e. we can't really give a significant discount at this price). Oh well, perhaps these will always need to be done this way - at least as long as the carpet is the real thing. Still, I'm just happy we make them, I love these bags to bits.

This is quite a rough mock-up of a couple of little draw-string bags, but just to show some of what we're working on.

We hope these will eventually be sold for under $20, but there is a LONG way still to go.

When we had our disastrous system crash a few months ago we lost parts of our mailing lists. However, like every good little cloud, this had a small silver lining - it made us get on with upgrading to a professional automated and verfied list. We're going to send out a newsletter this week, so if you'd like to be on the list, please, as they say, click here:

Signup to our newsletter here!

Needless to say we don't spam and we don't pass on email addresses to anyone, ever.

Nice to see Vampuss beginning to do well. We keep getting told it's a bit TOO weird, but well, it's what we do and what we love doing. I think this sort of weird is good, but it takes time to be accepted:

I am feeling incredibly guilty about neglecting the shop for so long. We've had so much to do that the products have fallen behind. But - we have plans underway to have the fabrics digitally printed for us, which will make things much easier.

Carpet bags WILL happen soon - we just have not had time, but we DO have carpets and all the rest, so we'll have it all underway for later in the summer.

We need another person here - but that's hopefully underway too.

Busy summer! Here is the Victorian Romantic Tarot. I have a feeling some of these may end up as cross-stitch patterns.

The Four of Wands - about kicking off conventions and letting yourself have fun - at least for a while.

I do love this circus/sideshow girls. And I want that blue dress.

It's finally going to print. We had some headaches getting the right card stock (it needs to include a carbon layer in the centre for opacity and also to protect it against bends and tears).

But, ready to go now. Here is one card, and also a sheet.

I'll add links to the shop in a minute!

Funny how most of this year will be spent on Victoriana, it's not at all what we planned, but I actually like it. An amazing excuse, apart from anything, to spend hours and hours looking through forgotten, but wonderful, old engravings.

Sometimes you find one that is lovely - but doesn't quite fit with any of the classic tarot archetypes - or the RWS system. Here is Psyche from a German periodical of around 1890. I want to include her, but where and how?
